Dare To Cope Wins the Captive Miss Stakes !!
$50,000 For Fillies Three Year Old One and One Sixteenth Miles - Turf (Monmouth Turf Course) Saturday June 17, 2000 Race 6 Main Track: Fast Turf: Firm
Finish Wire:
Slew O'Joy took the lead after a good start and lead the field through the first quarter in a time of 24:2. Into the clubhouse turn, Slew O'Joy continued on the lead pressed by Captive Audience and Dare to Cope as the field made their way to the back-stretch. Captive Audience then put a head in front mid way down the backside before giving way to Laurica at the end of the backstretch. In the turn, Captive Audience took the lead back and a two horse battled ensued between Captive Audience and Laurica entering the homestretch. In deep stretch, the two horse battle gave way to the oncoming monster closing move of Dare to Cope who came driving on the outside to get up and win The Captive Miss Stakes by a half-length on the wire! Dare to Cope is a three-year-old filly owned by The Headless Horsemen Racing Stable, trained by Timothy A. Hills and was ridden by Tommy Turner. Dare To Cope paid $12.20 to win.

First Annual HHRS Barbecue Bash at Monmouth Park...
The First Annual HHRS Barbecue Bash at Monmouth Park was a rousing success. Good friends, good food, and a valiant effort by HMS Jackson in the Bernie Dowd combined for a great day. Below are some pictures of partners and friends enjoying the day. As you can see, HMS Jackson was on hand in the stable area to greet admirers after his very nice place finish in the Bernie Dowd Handicap.
HMS Jackson Overtaken by NJ Horse of the Year Sea of Tranquility in the Dowd
HMS Jackson ran a great race in the Bernie Dowd Sakes race only to be stalked and beaten by Sea of Tranquility. For those of you looking at key races, the Dowd fits the bill as Sea of Tranquility won his next race on Haskell Day, the Salvatore Mile, over such horses as Rize, Rock and Roll, and Thistyranthasclass.
Headless Horsemen Racing Gets National and Regional Press
Headless Horsemen Racing got some nice exposure with an article in the Daily Racing Form on June 8. Written by Ryan Goldberg (class of 2001-Shore Regional High School and heading to Brown University), the article detailed a bit of Headless Horsemen history from the early beginnings with Paddy Time to the present successes of stakes winner Dare to Cope and J Bred star HMS Jackson. The article also hinted at the promising futures of our 2-year-olds in training along with the weanlings and yearlings that will be soon racing.
The Daily Racing Form article was quickly followed up by an interview with managing partner, Randy DePolo, for the NJ Breeders Association website and Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbreds Magazine. The history of HHRS was detailed with particular emphasis on our J-Bred program.
